I have been a teacher all my life but started acting in 2015, having been inspired by one of my students. I have now played lead roles in 10 plays including Margaret Thatcher in Handbagged by Rona Munro in 2018. In February 2020 I played the lead role of Glaswegian prisoner Faye in IRON by Rona Munro.
I have trained at the Jim Cartwright Drama Studio, ActUpNorth, Play with Fire, Thinking Actors and the Actors Lab. I have worked from scripts and written and performed monologues. I have also done lots of improvising, set scripts and improvised duologues in front of the camera. I have attended various courses and workshops with MAP including on screen acting with Karen Henthorn. Since March 2020, I have taken regular ( 4 times a week) online improv classes with Liverpool Comedy Improv
I have modelled for four different photographers, and enjoyed in particular being involved in a mother daughter photo/video shoot which is featured on the photographer’s website Vilija Skubute https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LH_lFbbuNUc
I have taken part in numerous short films, promotional and corporate videos, and an on line ad for Michelin Tyres. https://vimeo.com/237060232
I am also an accomplished violinist and lead 2 local orchestras. I took part in a pop video with the MonaLisa Twins in May 2018.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsiKXfFkRoA&app=desktop
I can do various accents including RP, Cheshire, Manchester, Yorkshire, Liverpool, Glaswegian and have been cast in many voice overs and radio plays. For some I have played up to 3 different characters in the same film / radio play utilising my different accents and voices. I have always lived in Manchester but my Glasgow accent is particularly convincing - helped I imagine by having parents from there.
Having taken early retirement from teaching July 2020, I now have the time to focus entirely on my acting.
