"I'm looking for the truth. The audience doesn't come to see you, they come to see themselves." - Julianne Moore
Acting has been my ambition ever since I was a little girl. I’d join after-school drama clubs, watch behind the scenes of a breath-taking movie and think to myself, “it must be so thrilling to be one person and suddenly then walk into another room and be someone else, completely different from who you were before”. That’s when I decided I wanted to be a part of something so creative and powerful, to experience someone else’s life, be put in their shoes. How they feel at that very moment and how they change through time. I've been acting and participating in acting groups since I was eight years old. This includes many nativity plays being different characters each year. I've performed with my primary school and took part in after-school drama clubs, for four years until graduation.

I then went onto studying drama at secondary school, becoming more involved going out and seeing more theatre. One that really motivated me and became my favourite Theatre/musical piece was Blood Brothers to which I saw at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry in 2013. That’s when I took my acting career to the next level and began to study Performing Arts at my local college. Here I was able to learn about myself and improve my techniques as an actor. I was also introduced to musical theatre, coming out of my comfort zone and heightening my confidence in my vocal skills. I’ve been able to perform in front of live audiences within musical and theatre. I've performed in performances such as 'Smashed' (2015), 'Rock of Ages' (2017), 'Life is a Cabaret' (2018) and so on.

Furthermore, I’m also participating in a Senior Youth Theatre group at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry. This also includes performing in a variety of theatre work with them such as 'The Impossible Language of the Time' (2015), 'Tethered to the Light' (2017) and 'Being Human' (2019). On the contrary, this experience has helped me mould into an improved actor and be open to further opportunities such as writing and directing. Which landed me in a role to also write and direct the depression scene for 'Tethered to the Light' and write a script called 'Being Human'. With being connected through the Belgrade Theatre, I’ve worked amongst other theatre companies such as Frantic Assembly and Highly Sprung. Performing in shows such as 'Transformation' (2016), 'Absolute Truth' (2017) and 'Oxygen' (2018).

I’m now currently studying a BA Hons Theatre & Professional Practice at Coventry University, where I’m adapting and pushing my limits further whilst taking on new challenges.

Extras

Extras experience

Previous speaking roles

Collaborating within this industry has given me the ability to work behind and within many theatres as several characters with minor roles. I have worked as an extra in a voice-over web series for "The Faction of Farce" portraying an a Screaming Bank Customer. I've also been a background extra for theatrical shows such as musical theatre for my college shows where they needed extra people for some scenes as well as being the main character in another scene.

Modeling

My inspirational plus-size model is Rebel Wilson, she knows how to flaunt her beautiful curves and show people that no matter what size you are, you can be YOU. That is my motivation, inspiration and passion to show anyone that you can be who you want to be, enough of being the same, be unique, be spontaneous but most of all be you. I love fashion, I love creating new styles, trying new brands anything that shows off my curves and inspires other curvy women.

I have acquired experience in front of the camera both modelling and acting, I know how to move and follow direction. However, I would like to do more, I would like to take on new challenges, experience a variety of incredible opportunities within the modelling industry and meet new people, have fun along the way because that's what this industry is really about. It's about creating moments and having a good time.

I've recently entered Ms Curvaceous UK and gained further experience in modelling during the workshop, I've took on a new challenge and skill of Cat Walking, taught by professional models that I never saw myself doing before and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Influencer

I'm an influencer in fashion for the Plus-size industry, representing women of all shape and sizes.

I have trained in musical theatre for three years at college. Performing in musicals such as 'Encore' (2016), 'Rock of Ages' (2017) and 'Life is a Cabaret' (2018). All of which have improved and heightened my confidence and vocal skills on a huge scale compared to my first session with the company.

I have acquired a lot of experience such as backing vocals and lead vocals during my time there. Furthermore, I've met some wonderful people on this journey and have been able to understand musical theatre more. I started out as a nervous student and then bloomed into a confident singer, although I wouldn't categorise myself as a professional or a singer.

TV & Reality

I've had some experience within TV, starring in the webseries 'The Faction of Farce' as one of the voice-overs in the third season, directed by Ross K. Foad.

I've also had previous experience in interviews, having done a reality TV-styled interview back in 2011 at the Herbert Art Gallery & Media for one of our projects alongside filmography. Also joining in on the interview for the parliament taken place at my college back in 2014, interviewing each candidate alongside other participants from other courses.

I've helped out with the backstage crew at the Albany and Belgrade Theatre, helping them bring props on and off stage during performances I was in, so I have experience with the backstage crew.

Amongst being apart of the Belgrade Theatre Senior Youth, I've had the opportunity to write for two shows. 'Tethered to the Light', depression scene (2017) and 'Being Human' (2019).

During my Media Studies course at secondary school, I created a short thriller trailer for one of my projects, filming and editing the trailer. I've also designed posters and programmes for some of the performances I was in at college.

I studied an Art & Illustration course at secondary school and Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design at college, succeeding and being awarded an overall grade B/Merit. Also earning a Distinction in my production unit on my Level 2 Diploma in Performing Arts course, to which I really enjoyed.

I've participated on the Herbert Arts Gallery media course, where I learnt how to create a short clip using play dough, how to use the green screen and take pictures and edit them using Adobe Photoshop. We also did filmography, where we would take turns using the camera, microphone whilst one of us interviews the other team member. Then progressed onto editing the short video later on. I was also included in a radio experience, doing advertisements and having ago at interviews about the progress on the course

I still continue to do art as a hobbie, enhancing my skills in a variety of areas. I have a page on Instagram that contributes to my artistic skills. @Gemogorgon. My current skills are in body & facial paint, lifestyle, portrait, cartoon characters, montages and scenery.

Photography

Photography experience

Amateur photographer

Photography is one of my creative hobbies along side art. I have trained in photography and filmography at the Herbert Art Gallary, Coventry in 2011. Focussing on photoshop, filming and photography on the course and learning how to edit those images using Adobe photoshop.

In 2013, I studied Media Studies and Art & Illustration at second school, I was trained further in editing photos and designing them into artwork using Adobe photoshop. This is where I developed my skills using a professional camera and editing techniques such as lighting and focusing.

Futhermore, I went onto studying Art & Design at college where I studied a photography module using the darkroom to create photographic films. Taking pictures of people and scenery then developing the film later on.

I have always used photography as part of my art hobbie, taking images and combining them together to make a montage of something creative and unique. Using those edits, I can transfer those designs onto canvases using paints, pens, charcoal and water colours. This has given me experience in photography such as portraits, landscapes, scenery such as nature and wildlife, headshots and so on. See examples of my work on my Instagram accounts; @gemmalsharman and @gemogorgon.
