Casting Call Auckland University Postgraduate Short Film
This 5-min short film has 3 scenes in total. Only the first scene contains a verbal fight between the mother and the daughter and ends with the mother forcing the daughter to wear a dress and makeup, but she storms off.
The next two scenes are driven by dialogues and no physical encounters and no disturbing scenes will be involved. It is a practical experience of driving a story via dialogue and acting.
It is an unpaid production but food will be provided.

A selected scene from the film will be used for a 3-minute performance on stage on the 26th of August, for another assignment. Please let me know if you are available on the day.

An innocent teenager raised by a problematic single Mom, is desperate for a better life. More than ready to leave the environment she is stuck in.

She has ongoing financial problems and smoking and gambling makes her trade her own daughter for dollars.

Todd - Jess’ crush who she considers as her friend
Todd dropped out of school and works for family and friends for cash jobs. The money is used to bail his father out of jail.

Jake - An Usurer
Who lends money to Jess’ mother until she cannot repay, then he asks for her daughter.
