Welcome to the 1920’s. We invite you to “Come as you are, or who you want to be”.

We are looking for a strong, diverse troupe of actors who have the ability to think on the spot. This immersive theatre experience is not your ordinary sit down show. The audience will be actively walking around you and interacting with you as they search for clues to discover whodunnit.

This is a divisive theatre piece that will be fleshed out as we develop the script together, based on our cast strengths and your character choices. You will need to embody your characters and know them inside out, as well as the ability to think quickly if audience members ask you about your alibi.

We are looking for a strong sense of teamwork and the ability to contribute ideas to the development process. This show is aimed at high end corporate Christmas parties, will be catered with a bar open as the audience endeavour to discover the lost martini recipe with you. A unique experience for actors and audience, we aim to put on a show that upholds the Play Space ethos of an Accessible, Intentional, Quality and Vivacious performance.

We are also seeking musician/s to provide atmospheric/ ambient music that ties in with the 1920s theme and adds to the show. You will need to play for the duration of the show, including half time and after (until the majority of the audience dissipates). Payment will be ONE SET AMOUNT i.e, if an octet gets this role your wage will be split 8 ways, if a duet gets this role your payment will be split between the 2 of you.

This is a professional production. Payment will be per show.

The 8th August will be individual block auditions, at the end of the day on the 8th you may be contacted to attend the callback workshop on the 9th. This session will run 11am to 2pm and will be a group workshop, please bring comfortable, moveable clothing and a water bottle.

To book an audition slot or for a more in depth character profile, apply via StarNow with an indication of what character you are auditioning for, a headshot, an updated CV (1 page only!) and confirm you are available on the 9th August 11am-2pm. Guide

We are looking for a maître d’ type figure that acts as a bridge between the cast and audience, providing important structure. You will need to be comfortable talking to people, as it is your job to ensure that the guests are keeping up with the show as they walk from room to room to offer assistance, relay messages between cast members if they may have revealed something about another character, and set the introduction to our world, and the rules for the audience of the night.

Anyone, aged 25 and over

Rich Man

Our strongest male character, a wealthy and successful attorney, this man knows what he likes, and he’s not quiet about expressing it. He is bold, brash and sassy. Embodying the typical New Yorker in style and attitude, he belongs at this bar.

Male, aged 30 and over

Applications closed 8 August 2020.

Rich Woman

A rich, prim and very overly dramatic woman. She is very boastful and is very adventurous, always talking about a grand adventure she has (or perhaps hasn’t) been on. Full of grandeur and easily offended. Her family are proud hunters and explorers and she often tells confusing stories of great histories she has clearly misunderstood.

Female, aged 30 and over

Applications closed 8 August 2020.

Wilting Diva

This forlorn character is a staple at the bar, and will be a central character in the entire production. A washed up lounge singer- think “southern belle” sadness- her lamenting ballads tell a lot of her story. We will need someone who is comfortable both singing and acting for the night.

Female, aged 25 and over

Applications closed 8 August 2020.

Charleston Showgirl

Preppy, upbeat and vapid- everything a showgirl should be! She flits between other characters and on stage dancing. Doing this means that she hears lot of different thing- some she shouldn’t- and is slightly too stupid to know that everyone uses this to their own advantage!

Female, aged 18 to 30

Applications closed 8 August 2020.

VIP

This very important bar patron sits in his booth for the majority of the show and is living his best life. His story arc will take us on a journey of him being a huge pompous character to discovering how sad he really is.

Male, aged 18 to 40

Applications closed 8 August 2020.

Bar Drunk

Stationed solidly at the bar, the drunk is an irritated, aloof man. He cannot remember how he got here or where he came from, his alibi is sketchy, and all he wants is another drink. He will, however, be a valuable addition to the storyline. There is more to uncover about this character and his tales than the audience might first see.

Male, aged 30 to 50

Applications closed 8 August 2020.

Bar Attendant Twins/Servers

These two speak in riddles and rhyme and love to trick and confuse the guests. They work in perfect tandem. These roles call for actors who are willing to play and explore with strong improvisation skills. Circus skills are a real plus but not essential. Please note you will also be providing service assistance to the audience.

Anyone, aged 18 to 40

Chorus Member

You will be adding atmosphere to the night, dressed in art deco and adding glam and enthusiasm to create our world. Fawning over the VIP, going and chatting to audience members, cheering the band, drinking martinis. Be vivacious, be exuberant, be some va-va-va-voom to ensure everyone has a great night!

Anyone, aged 18 to 35
