Supporting Roles needed for Student Short Film - Drama

Victoria, Australia

HOUSE OF TOMORROW follows two sisters, Mischa (23) and Agnes (9), as they are left to navigate the dystopian streets of a hazardous Melbourne on their own. Mischa finds her morals at a crossroad when her sister shows a keen interest in environmental activism, forcing her to question how best to protect her.

At its core, this is a film about sisterhood, taking a macro-issue and bringing it down to a micro level. We are using the environmental crisis as a backdrop to comment on the nuanced dynamics of familial relationships.

We are looking to fill the secondary roles for this short film, being Mischa's childhood friend Cleo, a wealthy woman taking advantage of her status, and a rundown cashier.

This project is being completed with 4th year Film and Television students at Swinburne University. The final film will be submitted to film festivals both nationally and internationally.

The film is set in a dystopian inner-city Melbourne 2050.

Key ACTING references include We The Animals, Room, Beats of The Southern WIld, Moonlight.

Cleo is a strong-willed, charismatic activist, exuding warmth and care. They always stand up for what’s right, but are not immune to making mistakes. They’ve been raised by environmental activists and were close friends with Mischa before Mischa’s parents died. They have a certain awkwardness that comes out when around Mischa.

Representing the upper-class, the Wealthy Woman is used to explore how class affects one's position during times of crisis. She’s snarky and lacks empathy. This character exploits her privilege and believes her wealth is indicative of her value in society. She looks at Mischa and Agnes as useless strains on the economy.
