ASEXY - An Asexual Love Story
(15-minute romantic drama)

In the stark Southern Highlands of rural NSW, two edgy young asexuals strip naked and share a spa bath… but a shocking sexual awakening threatens to send their romantic evening down the drain.

Based on the real experiences of “ace” and transgender writer-director Kylie Aoibheann McDonnell, ASEXY is a groundbreaking story of intimacy, desire and growing-up, which will make history as one of very first short films by, for, and about "aces".

WHAT'S THE STORY?

Jake and Rachel are both 'ace', and seem like a perfect match. But in a steamy bathroom, Rachel reveals that she may actually like him… sexually. While she's terrified by this possibility, Jake is desperate to please - and as the candles are lit and the clothes drop to the floor, he sets out to clumsily seduce her. But when it's time to take the plunge, will he really be ready to get 'hot and heavy'?

WHAT'S "ASEXY" MEAN?

Someone who's asexual (or "ace") doesn't feel sexually attracted to girls, guys or anyone in between. Despite not finding people "hot", some "aces" DO want a romantic relationship; in the "ace" community, we refer to people we're "into" as... ASEXY.

WHO ARE WE?

Since first meeting during their studies at AFTRS (Australian Film Television and Radio School), Kylie and producer Oliver Ellis have teamed up on many celebrated projects - from the documentary FAREWELL HAPPY FIELDS to the psychological thriller SEE FOR YOURSELF, made with the Deaf community. Produced by their indie production company Inner Pictures, ASEXY will be brought to life by a talented, diverse team of emerging creatives.

WHAT'S THE SCHEDULE?

ASEXY has been carefully developed over the past year, and was even a finalist at Queer Screen's Pitch-Off! ASEXY will come to life later this year.

- MAY: We rehearse and storyboard every scene.

- JUNE/JULY: We shoot ASEXY over 3 days in the picturesque country town of Exeter, in the Southern Highlands of NSW.

- JULY/AUGUST: In the editing room, ASEXY is finalised with expert sound design, colour grading and music.

- SEPTEMBER and BEYOND: We premiere at a festival like Telluride International Festival or Outfest before returning to delight local audiences, such as at Queer Screen Film Fest, Melbourne Queer Film Fest and Sydney Film Festival!

Role is reserved for actors who are feminine-identifying, non-binary and/or gender diverse. Talent who identify as BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ and/or actors with disability will be prioritised. BIO: Coy at first, but bubbly and unafraid to roast her friends, Rachel is an art-obsessed hipster. Contrary to what she’d like to believe, years of being belittled for her identity, have left her insecure. She’s terrified of her feelings for Jake – which she’ll need to divulge, if their relationship is to survive.

Trying TOO hard to impress Rachel, what he really needs is to be clear about what he's comfortable with in their relationship.
