WORK FROM HOME
Voiceover & Radio

Please note before applying that this opportunity is unpaid and only open to those with voice acting experience and professional-standard recording equipment at home.

I'm looking for actors to star in a podcast drama series called 'MISPER'. It's a police procedural involving a pair of detectives who search for missing people in a grim, fictional city. It's dark, gritty, and is intended to push UK podcast drama a bit more into the mainstream, the way it has come along in the US in recent years, with high production values and an atmospheric original music score. The plan is to release it as an 8-part series in mid-2022.

Who am I? I’m a writer, composer, and recent Radio Production Master’s graduate. This is my first independent project and has been supported by a grant from the Arts Council/National Lottery. This grant enabled me to partner with Bournemouth Little Theatre and record much of the dialogue with them. However, there are a handful of roles I've been unable to cast - including the two leads - so I'm opening these out nationwide to actors who can record at home.

As we’re recording characters individually, we can be very flexible in terms of dates - November or December would be ideal. Unless you happen to live in or around Dorset/Hampshire, recording will be online, probably via Source Connect (which requires Google Chrome).

Just to reiterate: this is an unpaid/voluntary for everyone involved. It's a chance for us to network, create something very unique, and enhance our show-reels. Good luck!

D.S. Jamie Pink (male lead)

Estuary/London accent. Voice age 25-35. Smart but sometimes narrow-minded, indifferent but antagonistic, brittle but sensitive, Jamie Pink is full of contradictions. He fell into the job at a young age and feels a little resentful at having so much responsibility foisted on him so early. He'd rather be spending what's left of his youth travelling the world. Nevertheless, he's a great detective.

Male, aged 20 to 40

  • Acting experience: Previous unpaid speaking roles, Previous paid speaking roles
  • Accents: UK Cockney, UK English

Applications closed 7 November 2021.

D.S. Jess Moore (female lead)

RP accent. Voice age: 30-40. An army child who fell into policing despite her parents' protestations. Intelligent, determined, empathetic and kind if a little headstrong. Jess loves the job and works far too hard for far too many hours, leading her to realise that life seems to be passing her by.

Female, aged 25 to 45

  • Acting experience: Previous unpaid speaking roles, Previous paid speaking roles
  • Accents: UK English, UK Posh

Applications closed 7 November 2021.

D.C.I. Heather Cutler

RP accent. Voice age about 55-60. Well-spoken, dry, eccentric senior officer. Think Fiona Shaw in Killing Eve.

Female, aged 45 to 70

  • Acting experience: Previous unpaid speaking roles, Previous paid speaking roles
  • Accents: UK English, UK Posh

Applications closed 7 November 2021.

Martha

Rough accent, 50+ Eccentric, slightly pretentious landlady of Martha's Bar, a downmarket hostelry which she is being forced to use as a brothel to make ends meet. Hates the police. Bit of a bully. Cockney 'trying to be posh' might work well here (à la Dot Cotton).

Female, aged 40 to 75

  • Acting experience: Previous unpaid speaking roles, Previous paid speaking roles
  • Accents: UK Cockney, UK English

Applications closed 7 November 2021.

Lydia La Fontaine

RP accent. 30s/40s. Daughter of millionaire Lucian La Fontaine, who has bought the local football club and corporatised it, upsetting the fans. A typical spoilt ‘daddy's girl', she’s been installed as Chairman of the club and, although she tries her best, she's totally out of her depth and the club's failing. Probably a nice person deep down, but not at all likeable.

Female, aged 25 to 50

  • Acting experience: Previous unpaid speaking roles, Previous paid speaking roles
  • Accents: UK English, UK Posh

Applications closed 7 November 2021.

Emma

RP accent, 30s Well-spoken female role - just a couple of answerphone messages. Annoyed that her friend (D.S. Jess Moore) isn't coming out for drinks.

Female, aged 25 to 40

  • Acting experience: Previous unpaid speaking roles, Previous paid speaking roles
  • Accents: UK English, UK Posh
