We are looking for to fill quite a few positions starting with; Stage Manager, Assistant Director and Producers.

We are also, of course, casting and our expectations are open! Anyone of any race, background, age, etc. is more than welcomed and encouraged to come and join us.

Auditions will take place downtown Toronto by Allan Gardens on Saturday, April 6th from 2pm - 6pm and Sunday, April 7th from 2pm - 7pm.

Rehearsals will take place Sundays 6pm - 9pm and Wednesdays 7pm - 9pm taking place downtown Toronto.


All minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Audition / Rehearsal / Production dates

Infanta Margaret Theresa

some what of a protagonist as she is so young and uninvolved in her parents' tyranny. Age: 5 (for casting purposes, if you believe you can pull this character off age wise, we are open to any actor)

Doña Isabel de Velasco

the lady in waiting to the right, in mid-curtsy to the Infanta, Isabel is extremely loyal but sometimes a little too familiar. Isabel’s confidence is seen in the court as impertinent but the princesa’s adoration has assisted Isabel’s ability to get away with almost anything.

Doña Marìa Agustina Sarmiento de Sotomayor

the lady in waiting to the left of la princesa. María is a demure but sly character. Based on María’s positioning, the lady in waiting is always ready to serve but only for the potential title of a royal favorite. María has been having an affair with Diego for almost 3 years and is becoming impatient as Diego had promised that the affair would result in a higher positioning within the court.

Maria Barbola

Maria, to the left of la princesa, was abandoned as a child due to Maria’s family’s social status. They had been extremely poor and due to little to no exposure to achondroplastic disorder, they did not want to risk another mouth to feed. Maria was picked up from Austria by a slave trader who, in passing through Madrid, sold her to a patron of the court.

Nicolas Pertusato

the second dwarf beside Maria, Nicolas is only about 7. Born to an extremely wealthy land-owner in Italy, Nicolas grew up alongside the Infanta. Nicolas’ family tragically passed away in a home fire, 6 months before posing for this photo and Nicolas was the only survivor so, King Philip IV insisted on adoption within by the court. Nicolas is very playful and affectionate but suffers from bouts of night terrors and severe anxiety from the tragedy.

Monja María de Ágreda

Originally, Doña Marcela de Ulloa but change for the story’s sake): María was a religious advisor to the King in the later half of Philip’s reign, known as a priestess and mystic throughout the kingdom. Since María’s childhood, the gift of “divine wisdom” was attributed to the priestess. María is the leader of the opposition against the Royal couple and is constantly contemplative with this decision.

Guardadamas

(Historically, this man has been labelled as ‘Unidentified bodyguard’): This character will remain unnamed to exemplify how discreet el Guardadamas presence and influence will be throughout the play. El Guardadamas will have a significant part in orchestrating the Royal couple’s assassination and a very close ear to Monja María. Due to social invisibility, el Guardadamas is able to execute all of expected duties to Monja and the revolt seamlessly and completely unnoticed.

Don José Nieto Velázquez

The Queen of Spain’s Chamberlain and is said to have been related to the painter. Don José is of extremely high Nobel ranking in the Spanish court and has always been a very close dinner party guest of the royal couple. After much fluffing from Diego the royal couple gave Don José the title of Chamberlain. El Don is meticulous with every detail in the court and is always a little anxious and on edge. Diego Velázquez

After the court’s beloved painter Rodrigo de Villandrando died in 1622, the King sat for Velázquez after being recommended by Olivares. Due to this immediate introduction to the court, Velázquez developed an extremely arrogant disposition that distanced the painter from everyone accept for the Royal couple. Philip adores Velázquez because of the painter’s talents and Baroque styling of the Royal family. The court is consistently annoyed by Velázquez’s special treatment but no one dares to challe

Historically, Philip is described as being extremely passive and a true model of a Baroque sovereign, thanks to Olivares tireless effort to create that type of persona within Philip. It is documented that the King was only remembered to have smiled a total of 3 times and based on the excessive circle of advisors surrounding the King, Philip is nor personable or well-liked.

Queen of Spain Mariana of Austria

Mariana was married to 44 year-old Philip at 14 years old so of course, the marriage was extremely unhappy. Mariana was not allowed much say in political affairs or anything happening within the kingdom, it is historically said that the Queen devoted much time to religion and was very pious. This disregard has made Mariana extremely anxious and irritable and leads to the alleged affair with Don José.

(he had been the King’s favorite and closest advisor only until 1643, his charisma ensured his role in the story): Olivares was posted by Philip’s side during the King’s waiting period as heir apparent to the throne. This early pairing ensured Olivares’ position within the court as the King’s most trusted advisor as well as the title of valido (a position higher than prime minister), a title that Monja María eventually convinced the King to abolish.
