The Bookseller
The Bookseller has run his shop for an age, perhaps he's been there for hundreds of years. He appears ancient, stern and tired, stooped by the ignorance of endless customers. He speaks in a typically English manner, as if a Professor lecturing the world. The Bookseller shows an utter love of books and knowledge but also a disgust at those who wish to abuse his love and an endless exhaustion with his chosen role in the world. His disgust at the ignorant customers should be humorous.

The Assistant
The Assistant is Igor to the Bookseller's Frankenstein. Once a customer to the shop, The Bookseller conducted a few experiments on his brain, rendering him lobotomised, mute and loyal. A hulking mass, the Assistant is a mute character but nonetheless crucial to the comedy of the film.

Mr. Conceit is the second customer to enter the shop, a larger role than Mr. Vanity. An irritating lecturer type, difficult for him to accept any opinion other than his own.

The second biggest role in the film. The Man enters the bookshop looking for information to help him write his book. He puts into question everything the Bookseller stands for, making him have a moment of realisation. The dynamic between the Bookseller and the Man is a major aspect of the film.
